Job Overview

Fortune is hiring a Research Analyst to support the Europe Lists Director in producing and expanding Fortune’s list franchises across Europe, including the Fortune 500 Europe. Fortune’s lists are among the most trusted and recognised rankings in business, and their credibility rests on the accuracy and integrity of the data behind them.

In this hands‑on role, you’ll research, verify and analyse company data, apply Fortune’s proprietary methodologies, and work closely with the Europe, US and Asia lists teams. You’ll also turn that data into insights that support our editorial, marketing, events and sales colleagues.

This is not a role in which you will be micromanaged. We work with a high degree of trust and autonomy, so we’re looking for someone who is self‑motivated, sees what needs to be done and gets on with it. You’ll also be a confident user of AI tools who thinks creatively about how they can help us improve our processes and streamline the work, without ever compromising on accuracy.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

Comfortable with Data: You genuinely enjoy working with data. Large spreadsheets, detailed data checks, and work that is repetitive at times don't put you off; you take pride in getting these right. You like building tracking tools, bringing order to complex information, and spotting where the value-add lies.

Adept at Data Tools: You know excel and aren’t fazed by complex functions in a spreadsheet. You’re quick at picking up other data tools that you haven’t worked with before and happy to go searching for particular datasets when needed.

AI Fluency & Creative Thinking: You use AI tools confidently and think creatively about where they can save time, improve quality and streamline our processes, while understanding their limitations and the need to verify their output.

Accuracy & Integrity: You treat every data point as if it will be published under Fortune’s name, because it will. You check your sources, document your work, and flag issues rather than smoothing them over.

Proactive Ownership: You see what needs to be done and get on with it. You take responsibility for your work from start to finish.

Independence & Self-Motivation: You’re comfortable working autonomously, managing your own priorities and deadlines, and you know when a question needs to be raised.

Collaborative Spirit: You enjoy working in a team and build trust across the Europe, US and Asia lists teams and with editorial, marketing, events and commercial colleagues.

Growth Mindset: You’re curious, own mistakes, are open to feedback and keen to keep learning, whether about companies and markets, new tools, or better ways of working.

Key Responsibilities:

List Research & Production

  • Assist in the development and publication of quantitative lists, such as the Fortune 500 Europe, using advanced Excel techniques
  • Research, collect and verify company data from annual reports, filings and research tools such as LSEG Refinitiv and Bloomberg Professional
  • Collaborate with the Europe, US and Asia Lists teams to ensure data accuracy and compliance with Fortune’s proprietary methodologies
  • Contribute to research for Fortune’s international lists in coordination with the US and global teams
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and databases, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality

Analysis & Insight

  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends, market segments and insights for Fortune’s European lists
  • Support content creation by providing data-driven insights to editorial, marketing, events and sales teams
  • Contribute ideas that help expand Fortune’s list franchises within the European market

Process Improvement & AI

  • Identify opportunities to use AI tools to improve and streamline research, data collection, quality checks and documentation
  • Test and introduce new tools and workflows, with clear checks in place to protect accuracy, confidentiality and data integrity
  • Review existing processes regularly and suggest practical improvements
  • Share what you learn and help build good practice in the use of AI across the team

Your Experience & Attributes

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in research, data analysis, or a related field
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulae, as well as the ability to use research tools such as S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg, or LSEG Refinitiv.
  • Hands‑on experience using AI tools in research or data work, with practical examples of how you have used them to improve a process
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • A track record of working independently, managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
  • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Business, or a related field
  • Fluency in English; other European languages a plus
