Fortress Recruit are working with a leading defence engineering business in the recruitment of an Engineering Lead, to provide leadership and coordination across the engineering function. This role sits above the discipline Team Leads and focuses on aligning engineering teams, supporting programme delivery and ensuring effective day-to-day engineering performance across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate engineering Team Leads across mechanical, electrical, electronics and systems/software disciplines
- Ensure engineering resource is aligned to live programmes and development activity
- Work closely with PMO to support delivery of programme milestones and priorities
- Oversee day-to-day engineering performance and team output
- Support workload prioritisation and resource allocation across engineering disciplines
- Maintain practical engineering processes and drive continuous improvement
- Contribute to early-stage innovation, feasibility and concept development activity
- Support structuring of R&D ideas into deliverable proposals
- Ensure application of DFMA, FMEA and engineering best practice
- Act as a key interface between Engineering, PMO and wider business functions
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Considerable engineering experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams in complex environments
- Strong understanding across mechanical, electrical, electronics and systems engineering
- Experience supporting programme delivery and engineering resource planning
- Exposure and/or a keen interest in innovation, product development or R&D activity
- Strong knowledge of DFMA, FMEA and engineering governance
- Strong communication and leadership capability
- Eligibility for SC clearance (5 years UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement)
This is a people and delivery-focused engineering leadership role, requiring strong technical understanding, structured thinking and the ability to bring clarity and alignment across teams. This is a full-time, permanent role based on-site in Dorset, with competitive salary and benefits on offer.
