Fortress Recruit are now looking for a Product Safety and Compliance Engineer on behalf of a leading defence engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Poole. You'll be responsible for product safety, regulatory compliance and certification activities across a diverse portfolio of complex defence products. Working closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Project teams, you will ensure products meet UK and international regulatory requirements throughout the full product lifecycle, whilst driving a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement across the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead product safety and compliance activities across multiple defence engineering programmes
  • Develop, maintain and review safety cases, hazard analyses, risk assessments and safety management plans
  • Interpret and apply relevant defence and international standards including DEF STAN, IEC, ATEX, IECEx, CE, UKCA, REACH and RoHS
  • Prepare and maintain technical files, declarations of conformity and regulatory submissions
  • Manage product certification programmes, type approvals and product approval lifecycles
  • Plan and lead internal compliance audits and support external customer, regulatory and certification body assessments
  • Act as the technical point of contact for customers, regulators and third party approval bodies on all product safety and compliance matters
  • Support root cause investigations and ensure compliance related corrective actions are implemented
  • Develop compliance processes, training and continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation
  • Prepare compliance reports, safety dashboards and risk registers for senior management

To be successful, you'll have:

  • A Degree or similar in Engineering, Safety or a related discipline
  • Significant experience within a Product Safety, Compliance, Systems Safety or Safety Engineering role
  • Previous experience within defence, aerospace, marine or another highly regulated engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of safety engineering principles, hazard analysis and safety case development
  • Experience working with defence standards and regulatory compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge of standards such as DEF STAN, IEC 61508, IEC 61511, MIL STD, ATEX, IECEx, REACH, RoHS and CE or UKCA marking
  • Experience supporting product certification and working with external regulators or certification bodies
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the business
  • Eligibility for SC clearance (5 years UK residency without visa or sponsorship requirement)
