Fortress Recruit is supporting a Defence Engineering organisation seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to deliver and support the design of complex engineered products. You’ll work across the full design lifecycle, from requirements capture and concept architecture through to detailed design, qualification testing, and production support, ensuring technical quality, compliance, and efficient delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver electrical design solutions across complete systems, including cabinets, cable assemblies, and routing at a system level.
- Produce detailed schematics, cable drawings, and documentation in line with customer, industry, and internal standards.
- Contribute to verification and validation activities, including qualification, EMC, vibration, shock, and environmental testing.
- Work closely with mechanical and production teams during build and test phases.
- Participate in design reviews, ensuring robust, compliant, and manufacturable solutions.
- Report on design progress, technical status, and resource utilisation.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- An Engineering degree, or HNC/HND with relevant experience.
- 5 years’ experience in electrical or electronic design within a regulated engineering environment (e.g. rail, automotive, defence, or similar).
- Experience producing detailed electrical schematics, cable designs, and supporting documentation.
- Familiarity with requirements capture, design reviews, verification & validation (EMC experience desirable but can be trained).
- Experience with ruggedised or complex engineering systems - desirable.
- Eligibility for SC Clearance (5 years' UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement).
This is a full-time, permanent role based in Poole, with occasional travel requirements, and flexible working opportunity.
