Fortress Recruit are working with a specialist engineering and manufacturing business in Portsmouth to recruit an experienced Change & Transformation Project Manager to support a programme of practical, site-based operational improvements and internal change initiatives. This is a hands-on role within a small, established site of around 200 people where change is delivered through close collaboration, strong communication and effective coordination across teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate a variety of site-based improvement and change projects from initiation through to completion.
  • Deliver practical projects such as machinery installations, production area moves, site reconfigurations and IT or infrastructure changes.
  • Take ownership of project planning, financial tracking, budgeting and simple cost control.
  • Work closely with operational teams to understand requirements and ensure minimal disruption to production.
  • Develop and maintain clear stakeholder relationships across SLT, finance, operations and shop floor teams.
  • Act as the central point of coordination across multiple internal teams and existing project stakeholders.
  • Introduce structure and consistency to how projects and change are defined, tracked and delivered.
  • Support the development of a more modern, simple and effective approach to project and change management.
  • Identify risks, blockers and gaps in delivery approach and help the business improve how change is implemented.
  • Maintain a visible presence on site to understand real operational impact and drive engagement.

To be considered for this role, you’ll have:

  • Strong project management experience within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Experience managing multiple small to medium scale projects rather than large complex programmes.
  • Good financial awareness with experience of basic budgeting, cost tracking and project controls.
  • Ability to bring structure to less mature or less formalised project environments.
  • Confidence to challenge existing ways of working and help improve processes where needed.
  • Strong judgement to know when to influence, when to challenge and when to support.
  • Eligibility for Security Clearance (5 years' UK residency without visa or sponsorship requirement).

This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit engineering business where change is tangible, visible and directly impacts day-to-day operations. The role will suit someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, understanding how things work in practice and working closely with operational teams to minimise disruption and ensure change is embedded effectively.

The successful candidate will be a strong project manager first and foremost, with the ability to build trust quickly, influence stakeholders and bring people together to deliver change in a practical and structured way. This is as much about communication, coordination and stakeholder engagement as it is about traditional project delivery.

The role is permanent, full time 37.5 hours a week and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The position is predominantly site-based in Portsmouth with occasional flexibility for home working and some supplier visits as required.
