CNC Machinist – Turning / Milling Fortress Recruit is now looking for a CNC Machinist to join a specialist manufacturing operation, producing high-precision components for complex marine and defence applications. Working primarily across CNC turning, with opportunities to utilise milling experience, you'll be responsible for setting and operating CNC machinery, maintaining quality standards and using your technical knowledge to identify and resolve machining issues. This is a hands-on machining position, with particular interest in experienced CNC machinists who are confident setting and operating Mazak machinery rather than purely operating machines that have already been set. Key responsibilities will include: * Setting and operating CNC machinery to manufacture high-precision components * Working predominantly across CNC turning, with milling experience also beneficial * Setting and operating Mazak machines * Reading and interpreting engineering drawings * Reading and understanding CNC code, including ISO / G-code and Mazatrol * Working accurately to required tolerances and quality standards * Troubleshooting machining issues and making appropriate adjustments * Ensuring components are produced within required process times and production deadlines * Supporting continuous improvement activities across the manufacturing environment * Maintaining high standards of 5S, quality and Health & Safety * Working flexibly across different machining disciplines when required * Supporting skills development and cross-training within the wider production team To be considered for this role, you'll have: * Previous experience with CNC machining * Previous experience setting and operating Mazak machines * Good CNC turning experience, ideally alongside milling * The ability to read and understand engineering drawings * The ability to read CNC code, including ISO / G-code and/or Mazatrol * A good understanding of turning and milling techniques * Strong practical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills * A hands-on approach with a strong focus on quality and accuracy * A good understanding of Health & Safety and 5S within manufacturing Previous offline programming experience using Edgecam, Mastercam or Mazatrol would be advantageous but isn't essential. This role is suitable for a technically capable CNC machinist who can confidently set machinery, understand the machining process and use their knowledge to solve problems rather than simply operate a pre-set machine. This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week on the day shift, offering up to £35K plus annual bonus, private medical insurance and an enhanced pension scheme.
