Fortress Recruit are now looking for a Senior Production Engineer (Fabrication) on behalf of a leading defence manufacturer based in Poole. As Senior Production Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting fabrication and manufacturing operations, developing and improving production processes and driving continuous improvement across the shop floor. Working closely with Design, Production and Quality teams, you will support new product introduction, improve Design for Manufacture and develop tooling, fixtures and manufacturing methods to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
Key responsibilities:
- Support new product introduction ensuring Design for Manufacture principles are achieved
- Develop and improve fabrication and manufacturing processes across production
- Design and implement tooling, fixtures and jigs to improve manufacturing efficiency
- Review engineering drawings and manufacturing data packs to ensure products are suitable for manufacture
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, cost, delivery and productivity
- Carry out root cause analysis and resolve manufacturing and production issues
- Conduct PFMEA activities and implement preventative actions to reduce waste, defects and rework
- Produce and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions and standard operating procedures
- Support Bills of Materials and manufacturing routings
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical support to manufacturing teams
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality and Supply Chain to deliver manufacturing improvements
To be successful, you'll have:
- Strong experience within a fabrication, welded or precision manufacturing environment
- Experience in a Production Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering position
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, tooling and Design for Manufacture principles
- Experience supporting new product introduction
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience carrying out root cause analysis, PFMEA and process improvement activities
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings and Bills of Materials
- Experience using ERP or MRP systems and CAD software would be advantageous
- Strong communication, planning and organisational skills
- Relevant engineering qualification (HND, degree, or equivalent experience)
- Eligibility for SC clearance (5 years' UK residency without visa or sponsorship requirement)
