Fortress Recruit is supporting a leading Defence Manufacturer in their search for a skilled Contract Electrical Design Engineer, working on specific projects, outside of IR35. This role focuses on delivering electrical design activities across key stages of the product lifecycle, supporting the development, verification, and manufacture of electrical systems used in demanding environments. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading electrical design tasks in line with customer and regulatory requirements
- Producing schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using CAD tools
- Creating and updating technical documentation including specifications and BOMs
- Supporting design reviews, verification, and validation activities
- Providing technical input to manufacturing and wider engineering teams
- Ensuring delivery to agreed quality, cost, and schedule targets
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Degree, HND, or equivalent)
- Considerable experience in electrical or electronic design within a relevant industry, to hit the ground running
- Experience with CAD tools, MRP / ERP systems, and Microsoft Office
- Experience supporting products through full design and production phases
- Experience with ruggedised or complex engineering systems
- Current, or eligibility for SC Clearance (5 years' UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement)
This is a contract role offered OUTSIDE IR35 with a competitive hourly rate, based on-site in Poole, Dorset, supporting technically complex defence projects within an experienced engineering team.
