Fortress Recruit are now recruiting for an Assistant Project Manager on behalf of a Defence Manufacturing business based in Poole. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented administrator or project coordinator looking to develop a career within project management in a highly regulated defence and maritime environment. Working closely with Project Managers and the wider PMO, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of complex engineering and defence projects by maintaining project controls, coordinating documentation, supporting governance activities and ensuring accurate project reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Project Managers throughout project start-up, delivery and close-out activities
- Maintain project documentation including plans, schedules, risk registers, issue logs, action trackers and change records
- Ensure accurate document control, version management and compliance with governance requirements
- Coordinate project meetings including agenda preparation, minute-taking and action tracking
- Assist with project reporting, cost tracking, schedule updates and forecasting activities
- Prepare reports and project information for internal and external stakeholders
- Support PMO governance processes and continuous improvement initiatives
- Coordinate information from cross-functional teams to support project delivery
- Maintain project registers and configuration control throughout the project lifecycle
- Assist with audit preparation and project evidence collation
- Support Health & Safety documentation management relating to projects
To be considered for this role, you'll have:
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience
- APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) or similar project management training (highly desirable)
- Previous experience in a project support, project coordination or project-led administrative position
- Understanding of project lifecycle processes and project documentation
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Experience maintaining records, registers and reports
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing, defence, maritime or other regulated industries would be highly advantageous
