Role Purpose:

As a member of the Back of House Stock Operations Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, movement, and replenishment of stock within the business. The role supports the seamless flow of products from delivery through to storage locations and onward to the sales floor or operational departments. You will maintain stock accuracy, uphold housekeeping and safety standards, and contribute to delivering an exceptional customer experience by ensuring products are available in the right place at the right time.

Key interfaces:

The role holder will work closely with colleagues within the Back of House Stock Operations team, reporting to the Goods in Management team. Daily interaction will extend to Retail teams, Goods In, Dispatch, Merchandising, Buying, Hospitality, Finance, and Stock Integrity teams to ensure effective stock management and operational efficiency.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Receive, unload, and safely process deliveries arriving from external distribution centres and suppliers.
  • Accurately check incoming stock against delivery documentation and report any shortages, damages, or discrepancies through established procedures.
  • Put away stock into designated storage locations efficiently and accurately using stock management systems and handheld devices where applicable.
  • Maintain stockroom organisation, ensuring locations are clearly identified, accessible, and compliant with health and safety standards.
  • Support replenishment activities by picking and preparing stock for retail floors and operational departments in line with service-level expectations.
  • Ensure stock is rotated correctly, following First In First Out (FIFO) principles and reporting any short-dated products to relevant stakeholders.
  • Carry out stock counts, cyclical counts, and inventory checks to maintain stock accuracy.
  • Investigate and report stock variances and support stock integrity initiatives.
  • Maintain temperature records and compliance checks within temperature-controlled storage areas where required.
  • Handle products carefully to protect quality and minimise waste or damage.
  • Monitor and respond to operational communications, including emails and stock requests, within agreed timeframes.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards, ensuring all back of house areas remain clean, safe, and well organised.
  • Work collaboratively with retail and operational teams to resolve stock-related queries and support business needs.
  • Assist with operational projects and process improvement initiatives as required.
  • Undertake any additional duties necessary to support the effective operation of the Back of House function.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and expected standards of conduct.

Role Specific Criteria (Experience/Behaviours/Technical Ability)

We expect the successful candidate to have the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent time management and reliability, with a strong attendance record.
  • Previous experience in a stockroom, warehouse, retail operations, or logistics environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining stock accuracy.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced operational environment while maintaining high standards.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build positive working relationships across departments.
  • Experience using stock management systems, handheld terminals (HHTs), or inventory software would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of manual handling practices and warehouse health and safety requirements.
  • A proactive approach to identifying issues and resolving them effectively.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong teamwork skills combined with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Resilience and adaptability during peak trading periods.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the importance of stock availability to customer service and sales.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and finding more efficient ways of working.
