We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Preop Lead Nurse to oversee the delivery of exceptional, evidence-based care within our Pre‐Assessment service. This is a senior clinical leadership position, responsible for ensuring high standards of patient care, operational efficiency, and a safe, organised working environment.
The Preop Lead will manage the day-to-day service, including both Face-to-Face and telephone-based pre-assessments, while providing strong clinical leadership and supporting the wider outpatient team. The role involves balancing clinical responsibilities with key management duties, supporting workforce planning, and leading on HR-related functions for the team. The post holder will be a visible clinical leader, spending approximately 75% of their time within the outpatient nursing rota, contributing directly to patient care.
Operational Management & Leadership- Lead the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across the Outpatients/Pre-assessment department.
- Provide visible, motivational leadership through strong communication, feedback, appraisals, and role-modelling.
- Ensure safe, efficient daily operations, including staffing levels, skill mix, resource allocation, and rota management.
- Oversee ward environment, equipment, consumables, and medication management.
- Maintain administrative and clinical governance, including KPIs, audits, incident investigations, quality monitoring, and safe staffing.
- Build strong relationships with consultants and the wider MDT to support personalised, efficient patient care.
- Deputise for the Outpatient Sister and Head of Nursing, actively contributing to the wider leadership team and service development.
- Promote collaborative, effective communication across the MDT, resolving issues and seeking feedback from staff.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, SOP and policy development, and support change management.
- Stay current with professional guidance and share best practice across the team.
- Support sustainability and lead on ward-based regulatory compliance in preparation for CQC.
- Lead all aspects of staff management, including recruitment, induction, appraisals, performance, sickness, retention, and professional development.
- Ensure full compliance with HR policies and accurate maintenance of staff competencies.
- Mentor, coach, and develop nursing staff, creating a positive learning culture in line with professional standards.
- Support continuous professional development, reflective practice, and student supervision.
- Deliver effective communication through meetings, updates, and structured information cascades.
