We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Practitioner to deliver exceptional, safe, and efficient care within our Post Anaesthetic Care (Recovery) and Enhanced Care Unit (ECU) in a leading private healthcare setting. In this senior role, you will provide strong clinical leadership while on shift, overseeing the care of Level 1–3 patients, supporting and mentoring junior staff and students, and ensuring full compliance with all policies, standard operating procedures, and mandatory training requirements. You will play an integral role in driving service excellence and contributing to ongoing quality improvement initiatives. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will ensure seamless patient journeys, optimise operational effectiveness, and uphold the highest professional and private‑sector standards. The post holder will maintain professional accountability in accordance with the NMC or HCPC Code of Professional Conduct.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Deliver safe, high-quality care for Recovery and ECU patients (Levels 1–3), including monitoring post‑anaesthetic recovery, supporting emergency responses, maintaining equipment and medication safety, and ensuring excellent documentation, infection control, and adherence to national standards.
- Leadership & People Management: Provide senior clinical leadership on shift, supervising and supporting junior staff, agency, and students. Contribute to staff development through mentoring, competency assessments, and appraisals, while promoting a positive, professional team culture and ensuring full compliance with mandatory training.
- MDT Collaboration: Work effectively with Anaesthetists, Intensivists, Surgeons, and the wider MDT to ensure seamless communication, safe handovers, and a patient‑centred approach to care, offering additional support during peak activity.
- Governance, Risk & Compliance: Ensure full adherence to organisational policies and regulatory standards, reporting incidents promptly, participating in audits and quality improvement initiatives, and upholding GDPR and confidentiality requirements.
- Operational Support: Ensure efficient use of resources, support service improvement initiatives, adapt to operational pressures, and contribute to the smooth running of theatre and recovery services.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration
- Minimum 3 years’ post‑qualification experience in high‑dependency or critical care settings
- Experience caring for Level 1–3 patients in Recovery or the Enhanced Care Unit
- Degree‑level qualification or equivalent professional experience
- Strong clinical reasoning, decision‑making, and critical‑thinking abilities
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting junior staff and students
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Evidence of ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
- ILS qualification
- Commitment to full compliance with mandatory training, SOPs, and organisational policies
- ALS qualification (or willingness to work towards)
- HDU/ITU course (or willingness to work towards)
Desirable:
- Mentorship or Practice Assessor qualification
- EPALS qualification
- Proven ability to promote MDT cohesion and deliver patient‑centred outcomes
- Experience leading service improvement initiatives, audits, or quality projects
