We are seeking a Fellow in Robotic Knee Arthroplasty Surgery to join Fortius Clinic for a 6‑ or 12‑month clinical and research fellowship. This prestigious fellowship provides advanced subspecialty training in robotic‑assisted and complex knee surgery within a high‑volume specialist orthopaedic centre. All Consultants perform robot‑assisted knee arthroplasty, with many specialising in soft tissue knee surgery and two Consultants specialising in revision knee surgery. The programme is designed to prepare the Fellow for a subspecialist career in complex knee surgery. By completion, the Fellow should be capable of planning and independently executing knee arthroplasty cases. Exposure includes primary and revision robotic arthroplasty, ligament reconstruction, patellofemoral surgery, osteotomy, and complex knee procedures. This is a purely elective fellowship with no on‑call or trauma commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical: Undertake daily assessment of all inpatients under their named Consultants and accelerate concerns promptly. Attend elective theatre lists, ward rounds, and occasional outpatient clinics with supervising Consultants. Participate primarily as an observer and assistant in operative cases. Perform independent surgical cases only with the supervising Consultant present and assisting. Develop towards recognition as a fully certified MAKO surgeon, with opportunities to act as first assistant and progress appropriately.
  • Data Capture: Contribute to the systematic and comprehensive collection of clinical data within the Knee Unit, adhering to established protocols.
  • Research: Fortius Clinic London has a strong academic focus, supported by a dedicated research coordinator and clinical lead for knee research. Complete and write up at least two original research projects in knee surgery. Produce at least one review article. Participate in regular research meetings, with progress reviewed by the lead Consultant. Utilise protected research time allocated within the fellowship timetable.
  • Clinical Audit: Design and complete audit projects aimed at improving clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Multidisciplinary Meetings: Attend two monthly MDT meetings (arthroplasty and soft tissue knee surgery), held virtually and face‑to‑face. Contribute to discussion of complex and challenging cases.
  • Appraisal: Participate in formal appraisal processes, including Initial goal setting at the start of the fellowship, Midpoint review, Final appraisal prior to completion.
