Fortismere is a high-attaining, mixed foundation secondary school in Muswell Hill, North London, with a strong reputation for excellence. The school site comprises three main teaching buildings set across a 22 acre campus. We are seeking a skilled, proactive and experienced Assistant Site & Facilities Manager to join our site team. This is a key operational role supporting the Site & Facilities Manager in delivering a safe, secure, and well‐maintained environment for students, staff, visitors, and contractors. You will act as deputy when required, combining hands‐on maintenance work with supervision of staff, coordination of contractors, and responsibility for health & safety compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Day‐to‐day maintenance, minor repairs, planned preventive maintenance, and regular inspections of buildings and grounds.
  • Monitoring essential services such as heating, lighting, ventilation, and drainage, ensuring efficient operation across the site.
  • Playing an important role in health and safety compliance, including supporting risk assessments, carrying out fire safety checks, maintaining statutory records, and ensuring safe systems of work are followed.
  • Supervising site assistants, allocating daily tasks, providing guidance and training, and deputising for the Site & Facilities Manager when required.
  • Acting as a key holder, responding to alarms and emergencies and ensuring site security at all times.
  • Liaising with contractors, monitoring quality of works, supporting lettings and school events, assisting with portering and logistics, and maintaining high standards across cleaning, waste management, and external areas.

We are looking for someone with practical maintenance skills, experience in site or facilities work, strong organisational ability, and a proactive, flexible approach.
