Position Overview

Reporting to Stations Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing engineering design and other professional services to support capital projects including new instrumentation and control system installations and modifications within pressure regulating facilities, CNG refueling stations, RG facilities, LNG and propane facilities, compressor stations, pipeline and valve stations to support operating activities at FortisBC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design and other professional services to support capital projects including new instrumentation and control system installations and modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, codes, standards and guidelines.
  • Perform standard engineering assignments; prepare and review the Instrumentation/Control Systems conceptual and detailed designs, including programming and configuration for new and upgrades to existing gas plant facilities.
  • Determine repair and/or replacement options and participate in technology selection and specification of equipment including purchase requisitions.
  • Provide technical support to operations staff and act as subject matter expert relative to I & C design and operating standards.
  • Perform site visits for the projects assigned or any other need for field inspections.
  • Participate in the preparation of feasibility assessments and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment where confirmation by testing is advisable.
  • Participate in establishing design constraints; select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations.
  • Participate as a team member in specific phases of engineering assignment and activities; ensure best practice methodology and related tools are utilized.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
  • Prepare control and system functional narratives.
  • Demonstrate leadership and provide technical direction to project team members; respond to questions/queries, explain technical requirements, validate work according to standards to maintain quality and integrity of designs.
  • Offer solutions to work-related problems and demonstrate work methods.
  • Provide performance feedback and participate in formal training and development.
  • Participate in external technical committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from a recognized program.
  • 4-7 years’ experience in natural gas transmission and distribution facilities or Oil and Gas Projects.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
  • Working knowledge of Instrumentation/Control System Engineering and Design (schematics, I/O, interconnection & wiring drawings, control cabinet layout).
  • Working knowledge of control systems; DCS, PLC, HMI and Telemetry/SCADA.
  • Working knowledge of Provincial and Canadian CSA Codes as applied to Oil and Gas projects.
  • Working knowledge of software such as MS Office and MS-Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical mentoring to Engineers in Training.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information and make sound judgements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
