If PCB design is more than just “placing components and routing tracks” to you, keep reading. This is a role for someone who sees PCB layout as a specialist engineering discipline — someone who enjoys solving electrical, mechanical and manufacturing challenges through intelligent PCB implementation. You’ll be joining a growing product development team where PCB design is treated as a critical part of the engineering process, not an afterthought. With in-house PCB fabrication, assembly and rapid prototyping capability available, your layouts can move from concept to physical hardware at exceptional speed. If you enjoy technically challenging designs, close collaboration with engineers, and the opportunity to become a recognised PCB expert, this is a genuinely exciting opportunity.
What You’ll Be Doing
- As a PCB Design Engineer, your primary focus will be PCB implementation excellence using Altium Designer. You’ll be responsible for:
- Creating complex multilayer PCB layouts from engineer-supplied schematics
- Translating design requirements into robust, production-ready PCB implementations
- Optimising component placement for performance, manufacturability, reliability and serviceability
- Defining PCB stack-ups in collaboration with electronics and manufacturing teams
- Routing complex boards including:
- High-density digital systems
- Mixed-signal designs
- Power electronics
- High-speed interfaces
- Flex-rigid PCB technologies
- Supporting design reviews and providing PCB implementation recommendations
- Contributing to manufacturability, cost and performance improvements
- Performing DRC and layout verification activities
- Maintaining accurate engineering documentation and configuration control
This is a role where your PCB decisions directly influence product performance and manufacturing success.
The Kind of PCB Design Engineer Who Thrives Here
You’re probably someone who enjoys going deep technically. You like understanding stack-ups, impedance control, grounding strategy and signal integrity — not just following routing rules. You take pride in producing layouts that are clean, manufacturable and robust. You enjoy collaborating with electronics engineers, but you’re also confident contributing your own ideas and challenging design assumptions when PCB implementation can be improved. Most importantly, you enjoy continuously developing your expertise in Altium Designer and advanced PCB design techniques.
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 5 years’ commercial PCB design experience
- Extensive professional experience using Altium Designer as your primary ECAD tool
- Strong background in multilayer PCB design (typically 6+ layers)
- Proven experience delivering complex, production-ready PCB layouts
- Experience with high-density and fine-pitch designs
- Experience designing flex-rigid PCBs
- Good understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes
- Ability to interpret schematics and engineering requirements accurately
- Excellent attention to detail and engineering quality standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Technical Knowledge
You should have a solid understanding of:
- PCB stack-up design
- Controlled impedance routing
- Signal integrity principles
- Power distribution and grounding strategies
- DFM, DFA and DFT principles
- PCB tolerancing and manufacturing constraints
Why This PCB Design Engineer Role Stands Out
This is more than a layout role. It’s an opportunity to become a recognised technical specialist within a growing innovation-focused engineering business. You’ll work on a wide variety of products across industrial, aerospace, automotive, IoT and emerging technology sectors, with direct access to manufacturing expertise throughout development. The ability to prototype rapidly means you’ll see the results of your work quickly and contribute to products that genuinely reach production. For PCB designers who want technical depth, influence, and long-term career development rather than repetitive layout work, this is a particularly strong opportunity.
What’s On Offer: Competitive salary, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, Pension scheme, ongoing technical training and professional development, exposure to a wide range of technologies and industry sectors, the opportunity to grow into senior technical ownership within a supportive engineering team.
If you’re a PCB Design Engineer who enjoys technically demanding layouts, values manufacturing-aware design, and wants to become a true Altium specialist, this is definitely worth a conversation.
