Fortis are working with a rapidly growing business who are looking to recruit a management accountant to be a key member of the team based in the Camberley area. You will be the most senior dedicated finance person and take ownership of the day to day financial operations whilst delivering accurate and insightful management reporting across company and group level. The company are in a period of rapid growth and this position is central to ensuring strong financial control as the business scales. The management accountant will combine operational finance responsibility with high-quality management accounting, giving visibility across project, departmental and group performance. This role offers genuine scope for development as the finance function evolves, including the opportunity to support future team growth and wider group consolidation. The ideal candidate will be confident working in a fast-paced SME environment, bringing strong technical capability, commercial awareness and a proactive, hands‑on approach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, including consolidated P&L reporting at company and group level, with supporting analysis and commentary.
  • Production of project and departmental P&L reporting, supporting margin tracking, cost control and performance analysis across live workstreams.
  • Assistance in maintaining and developing group-level reporting across multiple trading entities within the company structure, ensuring consistency and visibility across the business.
  • Ownership of core accounting processes including journals, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments, ensuring integrity of financial data.
  • Day-to-day support and oversight of the Bookkeeper, ensuring accuracy across purchase ledger, sales ledger and banking processes.
  • Coordination of payroll processing alongside the Bookkeeper and external providers, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely submission.
  • Preparation and submission oversight of VAT and CIS returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and deadlines.
  • Support cash flow monitoring and forecasting, providing timely insight to support business planning and operational decision-making.
  • Work closely with Directors and operational teams to provide financial insight, improve commercial awareness and support informed decision-making.
  • Act as a key point of contact for external accountants, HMRC and other financial stakeholders where required.
  • Continuously identify and implement improvements to financial systems, reporting processes and internal controls.

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong management accounting capability combined with a practical, hands‑on approach suited to a growing SME environment, ideally in an engineering, construction or project led environment. We are looking for candidates that are fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, FCCA) or qualified by experience who have a strong technical grounding. You will need to have strong Excel skills and be confident using accounting systems such as Xero. The company work in a fast moving industry so you will need to be able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities whilst keeping a high level of accuracy and consistency across all reporting and financial processes. Due to the project led environment you will need experience supporting project costings, margin analysis and performance reporting.
