Fortis are working with an engineering company in Basingstoke to recruit a manufacturing engineer on a contract basis. The position focuses on developing and optimising CNC programs and processes. You will work with advanced machining technologies including mill / turn machines, utilising CAD / CAM software such as SolidWorks and SolidCAM. The manufacturing engineer will look to optimise processes which will include selecting appropriate tooling and workholding for jobs, developing standard tooling, machining operations, speed / feed data and setups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a smooth transition from initial prototype batch into production volume.
  • Creating programs to provide stable and robust engineering processes in a medium volume environment.
  • Develop and produce high-quality CNC programs and processes.
  • Create, edit, and optimise NC programs while identifying improvements.
  • Design and build machining fixtures as needed.
  • Manage the support for the production department with machine stoppages and tooling issues.

Experience Required

  • 3-5 years experience programming CNC machines with CAD / CAM software, ideally SolidCAM.
  • Use of SolidWorks for parametric solid modelling.
  • Programming mill / turn and multichannel machines.
  • Proficiency in GCode and controls like Fanuc.
  • 3-5 years operating CNC lathes and mill/turns.
  • 3-5 years in a professional engineering environment creating 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, etc.
