ROLE OVERVIEW
Fortify is a Cambridge-based company building AI-driven products that help major financial institutions tackle fraud and financial crime across the payments, AML and fraud ecosystem. Fraud and financial crime cause real harm to people and businesses, and our work helps stop it. We are a growing business investing in people who can help us build faster and work smarter as we scale.
This graduate role is structured for someone who wants to learn how products are built, deployed and improved inside a fast-growing tech company. We are looking for someone near the start of their career who wants to become very good, quickly.
You will need to be confident learning new software quickly, and be able to demonstrate you are using AI tools for more than basic questions. You do not need a computer science degree or previous employment in a software-focused role. Coding experience is helpful, but optional.
We care about your ability to learn, exercise judgement and take responsibility for useful work.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Your initial graduate development assignment will be to build and support the internal products and AI tools that Fortify's fraud and financial-crime specialists use every day. We expect this assignment to last nine to twelve months, with internal product development as your main focus for at least the first nine months.
You will work with colleagues to understand their needs, decide which problems are worth solving, and build tools that make their work easier.
You will own the work through requirements, prioritisation, development, testing, support and ongoing improvements.
Alongside this assignment, you should expect work across the broader business, particularly supporting product development and consultancy. This may include customer deployments, demonstrations and pre-sales, AI research, internal operations, and work with more senior engineers and consultants. You will have a named manager from Product and coaching from colleagues across the company as you develop.
WHERE THE ROLE CAN LEAD
Our primary aim is to develop people for roles across Product: consultancy, product management, forward-deployed engineering, demo engineering and AI research. Other opportunities across the company may be possible too. The direction will depend on your strengths, interests and the opportunities available.
HOW YOU WORK
We are looking to assess how you learn and take responsibility. Specifically, we want to know how you:
  • Teach yourself, use AI critically and notice when its answers are weak or wrong.
  • Make progress with incomplete information and explain your assumptions.
  • Persist when work becomes difficult or repetitive.
  • Recognise when to ask for help, with clear context and a specific question.
  • Finish what you start, take responsibility for problems and listen to users.
  • Respond to feedback and change your approach when the evidence requires it.

Examples from personal projects, study, work or clubs can all show these qualities.

WHAT WE OFFER
You’ll have the opportunity to work at the forefront of AI innovation in financial technology, contributing to solutions that have a real impact on fraud prevention. You'll be part of a team that values expertise, innovation, and technological excellence while operating in the dynamic and critical field of financial security. You will learn from people who have done this before and will have real responsibility early, together with direct access to experienced engineers and fraud specialists.
We also offer a compelling benefits package including pension, life assurance, income protection, cycle to work scheme and more.
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
Hybrid, with three days a week (Tuesday to Thursday) in our Cambridge office.
HOW TO APPLY
Our application process has four stages, each designed to give you a fair chance to show the qualities above. First, send us your CV and short answers to five questions about things you have built, taught yourself, asked for help with or done using AI tools.
Shortlisted candidates will then complete a practical take-home task using AI tools, followed by a thirty-minute conversation about your approach, the checks you made and what you would change.
A small final group will be invited to an in-person discussion with the team.
EQUAL OPPORTUNTIES
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you need any adjustments during the application process, please let us know.
