I’m working with a small, high-performing team building technology that directly supports national security and defence capability. This is a genuinely exciting time to join them. They’ve recently secured significant funding and are scaling with real intent, so this is one of those rare opportunities to come in early, have proper ownership, and help shape what the platform and company become.

This isn’t a typical infra role where you’re just maintaining pipelines or internal tooling. The work is applied, the problems are real, and you can actually see the impact of what you’re building. They’re still a relatively small team, so you’ll have a genuine level of ownership. You’ll be close to decisions, close to the product, and working with people who’ve come from engineering, military and operational backgrounds.

From a technical point of view, you’d be shaping the platform everything runs on. The stack is modern, but more importantly, you’ll have a say in how it evolves.

You’ll likely be someone who:

  • Has built and scaled cloud infrastructure, not just supported it
  • Is comfortable working in AWS environments
  • Has hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerised systems
  • Uses Terraform or similar IaC tools as a default
  • Understands Linux, networking and security at a deeper level
  • Enjoys working in small teams where you just get on with things

It’s a strong fit if you:

  • Like ownership and autonomy rather than heavy process
  • Have worked on distributed systems or complex infrastructure
  • Have seen or are interested in mission-critical environments (defence, robotics, autonomy etc.)
  • Want to be closer to the end impact of what you’re building

You do need to be a UK citizen and able to go through SC clearance. If you’re open to something where you can genuinely shape the platform and be part of a high-impact team at a well-funded defence tech company, happy to share more.
