About The Role: Forth Ports is one of the UK’s leading port operators, delivering critical logistics, offshore wind support and heavy industrial operations. We are seeking a time‑served Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our engineering team at the Port of Grangemouth, maintaining and repairing large‑scale operational plant and electrical distribution in a fast‑moving 24‑hour environment. This is a varied, hands‑on heavy maintenance role suited to engineers who enjoy fault‑finding, breakdown response and working on some of the largest cranes and industrial equipment in Scotland. You will be part of an engineering team that supports day‑to‑day port operations, planned & reactive maintenance and projects. The role requires practical problem‑solving, safety awareness and the ability to work independently to keep plant and infrastructure running.
Typical Duties Include:
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults on large mobile and fixed plant
- Carrying out planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown response
- Working safely within live operational areas
- Repairing and maintaining equipment such as STS gantry cranes, straddle carriers, terminal tractors, empty container handlers, dock gates, electrical distribution from 230 V up to 11 kV and low‑voltage DC systems
- Performing electrical installations within warehousing and office environments
- Working at height, outdoors, and occasionally within confined spaces
- Supporting major engineering projects, shutdown activities at the lock entrance and equipment installations
- Using Ultimo CMMS to record work carried out, identify recurring faults and support reliability improvements
- Co‑ordinating with mechanical and operations teams to schedule maintenance activities
- Contributing to continuous improvement to enhance performance and reduce downtime
What We’re Looking For:
- Time‑served electrical apprenticeship
- Experience reading schematic drawings (preferred)
- Competent in electrical fault finding
- Comfortable working shifts and overtime
- Reliable, safety‑focused and able to work under pressure
- Experience with a CMMS/tablet system (advantageous)
- Full right to work in the UK
- Full driving licence, valid in the UK
Experience in ports, rail freight, quarries, heavy manufacturing, steelworks, power generation, bulk handling facilities or mobile plant maintenance environments is advantageous. Candidates with transferable experience from other heavy industrial or electrical maintenance backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
