Compensation: Salary £37,316 + shift allowance (~£3,000) + on‑call payments (~£1,200) + regular overtime. Earning potential £48,000‑£55,000+.
Shift Pattern: Structured 11‑week repeating schedule, Monday‑Friday covering day (08:00‑16:00), night (22:00‑06:00 Sunday‑Thursday), back (14:00‑22:00) and early (06:00‑14:00) shifts. Additionally on‑call for one week in every eleven weeks from Friday 12:00 to the following Friday 12:00.
About The Role: Forth Ports is a leading UK port operator involved in national logistics, offshore wind support and heavy industrial operations. We seek a time‑served Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our engineering team at the Port of Grangemouth, maintaining large‑scale operational plant in a fast‑moving 24‑hour environment. The role requires practical problem‑solving, safety awareness and the ability to work independently to keep plant and infrastructure running.
Typical Duties Include:
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and hydraulic faults on large mobile and fixed plant
- Carrying out planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown response
- Working safely within live operational areas
- Repairing equipment such as STS gantry cranes, straddle carriers, terminal tractors, empty container handlers, dock gates, hydraulic systems and other machinery
- Working at height, outdoors and occasionally in confined spaces
- Supporting major engineering projects, shutdown activities at our lock entrance and equipment installations
- Using Ultimo CMMS to record work, identify recurring faults and support reliability improvements
- Co‑ordinating with electricians and operations teams for maintenance activities
- Contributing to continuous improvement to reduce downtime
What We’re Looking For:
- Time‑served mechanical apprenticeship
- Heavy industrial maintenance experience preferred
- Strong hydraulic and mechanical fault‑finding ability
- Comfortable with shifts and overtime
- Reliable, safety‑focused and able to work under pressure
- Experience with a CMMS/tablet system advantageous
- Full right to work in the UK
- Full driving licence, valid in the UK
- Experience in ports, rail freight, quarries, heavy manufacturing, steelworks, power generation, bulk handling facilities or mobile plant maintenance environments is advantageous.
