About The Role
As a Timber Terminal Operative, you will be based within the Timber Terminal Operation and be responsible for the safe and efficient loading of timber onto vehicles, the treatment and handling of timber packs, and the effective control of stock. You will also maintain high standards of housekeeping to ensure a safe, organised, and efficient working environment, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the terminal.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Ensure that all jobs are carried out safely with regard to risk assessments, Company procedures and relevant COSHH legislation.
- Ensure the proper protective clothing and equipment is always worn in line with instruction.
- Assist with the discharge and storage of timber (both treated and untreated). This will involve the use of forklift trucks.
- Ensure that the timber is stored properly in line with picking lists and IPOS.
- Work closely with colleagues and management to ensure effective communication across the Timber Terminal Operation.
- Ensure that housekeeping in the Timber Terminal is maintained to a high standard.
- Develop a thorough working knowledge with the Timber Terminal processes so that any potential issues are avoided.
What are we looking for?
It is important to us that you are a good team member, who is also able to work independently. You will need to think critically, analyse situations, and develop practical solutions to overcome obstacles, minimise delays, and maintain operational efficiency. The Port environment is fast paced and busy so you must be able to demonstrate a really good understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in a heavily industrialised environment. As these roles may involve some nightshift working, we are looking for a degree of flexibility but an additional nightshift payment will apply for any nightshifts worked.
