An opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join the Finance department in our Kidlington office.
About the role
This is a senior role reporting to the Finance Manager in Group. The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting function of the FZero UK subsidiary as well as the accounts payable team. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong internal control framework, accurate monthly management reporting as per Group requirements, and delivering local audited statutory accounts on time. The role combines hands-on financial management; a strong focus on improving systems, processes, and internal controls; and collaboration to drive operational excellence.
What you will do
- Leadership of a team of Finance professionals, covering day-to-day transactional and monthly financial reporting, internal controls & processes, audits, finance systems, and financial compliance.
- Delivery of monthly management accounts internally and to Group under strict timelines.
- Communicating accurate, timely and insightful commentary of monthly P&L results and B/S movements with a deep understanding of underlying drivers rather than surface level commentary.
- Breadth of experience with various IFRS accounting issues to be able to effectively review accounting position papers prepared by the team.
- Continuously keeping up to date with operations to identify new significant risks or financial reporting implications.
- Oversee statutory accounts preparation, with ultimate responsibility for ensuring timely completion of the statutory audit without overruns.
- Developing robust policies and internal controls from scratch across all finance and accounting functions and implementing processes to maintain compliance.
- Developing a program of D365 system enhancements, process improvements, new policies, and internal controls and driving delivery of this program by empowering individuals in the team to close out projects as per the schedule.
- The primary Finance contact for escalating problems to find practical and quick solutions within the framework of the company policies and internal controls.
- Managing both internal and external stakeholder relationships. This includes the senior leadership team, auditors, and other service providers.
- Managing forecasting processes and cash call requests.
- Review and signoffs as required by various internal control processes.
About you
- Qualified chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent), with adequate experience in a similar role, company, team size.
- Strong technical financial accounting knowledge (IFRS or equivalent).
- Excellent leadership and mentoring skills and ability to motivate team members.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Understanding of the full suite of capabilities of large ERPs.
- Committed to delivering innovation and improvements within Finance, making sure the systems, processes, policies, and internal controls are fit-for-purpose and robust.
- High degree of agency and ability to take ownership of issues and see them through to completion.
- Resilient, energetic, and enthusiastic.
- Ability to prioritise projects as part of a long-term finance transformation program.
- Ability to zoom in and out of details as necessary – all areas of the spectrum from transactional level processes to company risk-based assessment.
