Job Description
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Central Engineering team in the position of Process Improvement Engineer.
The Purpose of the Plant Improvement Team is to drive Operational Improvements at the plant level by interacting directly with Site Management and implementing lasting improvements to manufacturing equipment to ensure that repetitive breakdowns/quality issues are fully engineered out and/or equipment speeds are improved to allow either increased production or increased maintenance time.
This role is a key part of the team and will take the lead on matters Mechanical, leading projects and/or taking direct action themselves to improve the operation.
Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
- Working as part of an “embedded team” for the plant to lead in root causing repetitive issues and implementing lasting containment measures and, where possible designing out the failures
- The modification and optimisation of mechanical systems on the shopfloor, including that documentation, planning, change control and training out any changes to Operators.
- Interacting with existing Factory equipment, including advanced fault finding, for example thermographic surveys, vibration analysis and Non-Destructive Inspections.
- Ability to design and execute small scale projects independently, including specifying and designing simple mechanical devices and fabrications.
- Working to the Forterra “standard” for Mechanical specifications.
- Produce User Requirement Specifications for submittal to 3rd party system integrators where required
- Join cross functional teams for large projects to take ownership of the mechanical aspects of the project.
- Work to the highest standards of Safety, both in the design and operation of automated equipment and in behaviour on site.
- Responsible for implementation of plant improvement activities, both in removing root causes for breakdowns and implementing improvement measures.
- Responsible for subcontractor management and safety
- Responsible for utilising basic Project Management tools to deliver Small scale Capital Projects on time and to a controlled budget
- Responsible for identifying and eliminating recurring plant issues through engineering improvements
- Responsible for driving improved plant reliability through best practice
About You:
- Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
- Appropriate engineering qualification to C&G or ONC/HNC/HND/Degree level
- Proven ability to work “hands on” in an industrial environment and make incremental improvements within mechanical equipment
- Experience in mechanical assemblies, welding and machining.
- Strong track record in delivering projects “from Cradle to Grave”
- Working knowledge of CAD would be preferred
- NEBOSH certified preferred
- Holder of a full driving licence
