We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Technical team in the position of Brick Process Engineer.
As a Central Brick Process Engineer, they will liaise with Engineering, Quality as well as Operational plants they support – Aircrete, Brick and Concrete (with accountability for delivering Process and Innovation improvement (Quality, Delivery, Sustainability, Cost improvement).
They will act as the process improvement lead on the resolution of issues associated to process, materials, and technical aspects. They will lead improvement in the areas of cost saving, product development, sustainability, and process realisation through delivery of New Product Development / Innovation projects assigned through the Technical Operations Manager.
Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
Technical Operational Support and Guidance
- Practical exposure of manufacturing technology within Aircrete, Brick or Concrete product manufacture at Forterra sites
- Lead Material Development and Optimisation projects on site (raw material change/optimisation, Process optimisation, other cost saving / sustainability projects)
- Process and or Material Specialist who has an exceptional understanding of lab to pilot to plant process scaling.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert in problem solving on site/plant as requested.
Process Engineering Development, Plant Optimisation Trials And Site Optimisation
- Complete optimisation trials to reduce overage of materials, maintain process capability of product and compliance requirements.
- Lead the technical aspects and impacts of any New Product Development project associated to the scope of their vocation ensuring trials, document control and finished product integrity is maintained.
- Lead Process Engineering improvement in association to CAPEX generation of Process/Quality/Innovation/Equipment/Systems.
- Implement systems and technology to mitigate reliance on paper-based systems (i.e.Quality Monitor / Analyst), in addition new technologies that provide greater autonomy (AI, Cameras etc.)
- Improvement activity aligned to reducing energy, over processing and over production initiatives with an over-arching deliverable on Innovation.
Process Improvement, Sustainability & Innovation
- Develop and maintain a close relationship with the Quality and Engineering teams ensuing that Compliance and Assurance aspects are introduced, followed and maintained (i.e. Control plan, Finished product specifications).
- Application of CI tools and framework (5 why, FMEA, Cause and Effect Analysis)
- Develop and deliver Process innovation delivery projects through appropriate ICE ranking.
Mentorship and Development
- Extensive mentoring of junior staff in developing their dissertations in Material Technology.
- Support On site technical training delivery to all levels of the business.
- Ensuring staff members continuously improve their own personal development.
- Promote continuous improvement in all areas of the plant through the adoption and implementation of WCM philosophies tools and techniques associated with FI and TPM practices.
About You
- Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and MS teams
- Material Science or Science Management background or Process Engineer (Batchelor degree or relevant experience)
- +10yrs preferred, (BTEC/HNC, Degree Continuous Improvement (6Sigma Green Belt etc)
