Overview
The Role Fortem Solutions are currently recruiting for a Van Fleet Compliance Manager to join our team on a permanent, full time basis. The Van Fleet Compliance Manager is responsible for promoting safe, responsible driver behaviour and ensuring full compliance across the fleet supporting social housing repairs. The role focuses on shaping driver behaviour through proactive driver training, behavioural auditing and reporting, leveraging telematics systems to drive performance improvements, and maintaining high standards of service and safety. Working closely with regional Fleet champions, you will ensure consistent standards, effective auditing, and the intelligent use of telematics systems to drive safety, efficiency, and accountability.
The Company Fortem Solutions are a nationwide business specialising in the Social Housing sector. We provide Repairs & Maintenance, Retrofit and Capital Works workstreams within Local Authorities and Housing Associations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Driver Behaviour Management
- Set and maintain company-wide standards for driver conduct, safety, and professionalism in tenant-facing roles.
- Monitor driver behaviour using telematics data across all regions, identifying trends and coordinating interventions with local Fleet Champions.
- Lead initiatives to reduce risky driving behaviours (e.g., speeding, harsh braking, idling) and improve fuel efficiency and service reliability.
- Lead initiatives to improve driver conduct, reduce risk, and promote a culture of safety and professionalism.
- Investigate serious incidents or repeated behavioural issues, supporting regional teams with coaching and corrective action plans.
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and respect in all driver interactions with tenants and the public.
- Training & Development
- Lead initiatives to ensure compliance with TTC training requirements
- Where required, design and deliver centralised training programmes on safe driving, vehicle checks, tenant interaction, and compliance awareness.
- Support Fleet Champions to and deliver interventions to train, coach and manage drivers flagged through audits or telematics reports.
- Collaborate with HR, Supply Chain and Operations to embed driver behaviour standards into onboarding, induction, and ongoing development.
- Develop toolkits and resources for local champions to promote consistent driver standards and engagement.
- Compliance Auditing
- Lead the development and execution of a national audit framework for fleet compliance
- Conduct spot checks and regional audits to ensure consistency and legal compliance.
- Ensure all drivers hold valid licences, qualifications, and certifications required for their roles.
- Report audit findings to senior management and lead corrective action planning.
- Policy & Reporting
- Develop and maintain policies related to driver behaviour, vehicle use, and compliance standards.
- Produce regular reports for senior leadership on driver performance, audit outcomes, and compliance trends.
- Advise leadership on trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement in fleet operations.
- Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement of fleet operations.
- Telematics Systems Capability
- Manage the central telematics platform, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting across all regions.
- Train Fleet champions on system use and data interpretation to support local decision-making.
- Use telematics insights to inform training needs, compliance risks, and operational improvements.
- Work with IT and fleet providers to ensure systems are configured effectively and data is used to drive decision-making.
What You Will Need
- Essential
- Experience in fleet compliance, driver management, or transport operations within social housing or public sector maintenance.
- Proficiency in telematics systems and fleet management software.
- Experience of managing driver behaviour in a fleet of 500+ vehicles.
- Full UK driving licence (no more than 5 points).
