We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial Projects team based in Longbridge, Birmingham. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial support to senior surveying staff on one or a number of projects to ensure that projects are procured, delivered within budget and to the highest quality whilst exceeding our customers’ expectations. This is a full time permanent role working Monday to Friday.

The Customer

This will be working within our well‑established Retrofit and Capital Works Projects division working on refurbishment contracts for the Central and South region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the company secures its full entitlement within the parameters of the Contract
  • Provide efficient and professional support to the Retrofit and Capital Works Projects division (High Risk, High and Low rise social housing external refurbishment projects)
  • Input timely and accurate information, including direct operative and subcontractor/supplier information and the application of the schedule of rates
  • Cost allocation of purchase orders and invoices including checking against order values
  • Monitoring and analysis of management information relating to material and subcontractor spend
  • Support the SQS in the preparation and timely reporting of information including: Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR), Cost Value Comparison (CVC) and management accounts, providing governance of budgets through robust cost control
  • Assist with the procurement for the project which will include sending out enquiries, vetting subcontractors, agreeing costs in-line with budgets with subcontractors & consultants, placing contractual orders and appointments, creating orders on the accounts system
  • Check subcontract and consultant payments and raise payments including payment/payless notices within the applicable contractual payment terms
  • Onboard suppliers, including overseeing subcontractor order compliance
  • Maintain a high‑quality telephone manner
  • Provide direct support to the commercial management function
  • Attend where required meetings with stakeholders i.e. internal, client, subcontract and design

What You Will Need

  • Proven experience of working at Assistant QS level
  • Experience within the Construction/Refurbishment sector
  • Excellent numeracy and organisational skill
  • Excellent IT knowledge including a high level of Excel skills (incl. V‑Lookup, Pivot tables and formula development)
  • Basic contractual awareness
  • Negotiating and communication skills
