The PLT Soil Spreader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a soil spreading machine (PLT spreader) used in land reclamation, construction, mining, or agricultural projects. The operator ensures even distribution of soil or related materials according to project specifications while maintaining equipment performance and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate PLT soil spreader equipment to distribute soil, topsoil, compost, or similar materials evenly across designated areas
  • Follow project plans, grade requirements, and supervisor instructions
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks on equipment
  • Identify and report mechanical issues, defects, or safety hazards
  • Adjust spreader settings to achieve correct thickness and coverage
  • Work closely with site supervisors, surveyors, and other equipment operators
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, production records, and equipment reports
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Perform basic cleaning and maintenance of the soil spreader after use

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment, preferably soil spreaders or similar machinery
  • Valid operator's license or heavy equipment certification (as required by local regulations)
  • Good understanding of soil types, spreading techniques, and ground preparation
  • Ability to read site plans, levels, and work instructions
  • Strong attention to safety and operational detail
  • Physically fit and able to work in outdoor environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in civil construction, land rehabilitation projects
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting minor equipment issues
  • First Aid and site safety certifications
  • Blue CPCS or NPORS with CSCS Logo
  • Driving Licence
