Key Responsibilities:
- Set and lead the innovation and R&D strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives
- Manage, mentor and develop a cross-functional technical team including scientists and engineers
- Drive scientific and technical development in materials and process innovation
- Own the full grant lifecycle: opportunity scanning, bid coordination, proposal writing, budgeting, compliance and reporting
- Translate technical outcomes into clear funding narratives and strategic proposals
- Build and maintain relationships with funders, academic partners, suppliers and collaborators
- Support technical design and delivery of pilot and demonstration projects and scale-up activities
- Lead procurement and contracting for technical equipment and services
- Contribute to strategic planning, investor communications and commercial decision making
- Promote a culture of scientific rigour, accountability and collaborative problem solving
Candidate Profile:
- A PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline
- 10+ years of post-PhD experience in R&D or applied science
- Proven track record within the carbon capture, chemical, or materials industries
- At least 5 years of leadership experience within a start-up or scale-up environment
- Strong budget management and project delivery skills
- Demonstrable success in securing and managing grant funding (UK, EU or equivalent)
- Experience building and leading scientific teams in fast-paced, high-growth settings
- Knowledge of industrial process scale-up, pilot plant development, or technology commercialisation
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- A passion for sustainability and tangible climate impact.
