Job Description
The Senior Software Engineer C++ will lead development of core backend services that process high-volume telemetry and event streams.
The role requires ownership of complex modules, driving performance improvements, and guaranteeing reliability for production systems used across thousands of vehicles.
Success will be measured by reduced incident rates, faster feature delivery, and demonstrable improvements in system throughput and latency.
The post is a 12-month fixed-term assignment focused on stabilising critical systems while enabling ongoing product roadmap delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement performant C++ services that handle telemetry ingestion, processing, and storage.
- Lead code reviews, define standards, and mentor engineers to elevate code quality and maintainability.
- Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and deploy durable fixes under time constraints.
- Optimise existing systems for concurrency, memory usage, and low-latency operation.
- Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical designs.
- Create and maintain comprehensive unit and integration test suites to safeguard service stability.
- Contribute to capacity planning, performance benchmarks, and release gating for key services.
- Document system design decisions and support operational runbooks for on-call teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with modern C++ (C++11+), including template metaprogramming, RAII, smart pointers, and concurrency primitives.
- Proven track record delivering production C++ systems in a commercial environment, with examples of performance optimisations and reliability improvements.
- Familiarity with networking, serialization formats, and event-driven architectures common in telemetry platforms.
- Experience with profiling tools, benchmarking, and diagnosing memory or concurrency issues at scale.
- Practical knowledge of SQL databases, ideally Microsoft SQL Server, and ability to design efficient queries and schemas where required.
- Exposure to C#/. NET is desirable for interoperability tasks and tooling integration.
- Strong mentoring skills and experience guiding mid-level and junior engineers through design decisions and career growth.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical trade-offs to stakeholders and influence architectural direction.
- Commitment to high-quality software engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and code review culture.
Benefits
- Comprehensive onboarding and targeted technical training to accelerate impact in the role.
- Access to an EV salary sacrifice scheme to reduce commuting costs and lower personal tax contributions.
- Private medical insurance with wellness incentives and corporate discounts on health products.
- 25 days annual leave excluding bank holidays, with incremental increases for length of service.
- Employee assistance services and a structured mental health support network across the organisation.
