Job Description

This Senior AWS Data Engineer will own the design and delivery of scalable data products that power analytics, optimisation and operational decisioning during a 12-month fixed-term engagement.

The role requires building robust ETL/ELT pipelines, defining data models and implementing automated quality and SLA controls to ensure timely, reliable datasets for cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines on AWS to ingest, process and store operational datasets.
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas and documentation to support analytics and machine learning use cases.
  • Implement data quality frameworks, validation checks and monitoring to meet SLAs.
  • Design metadata, lineage and data contract solutions to support governance and discoverability.
  • Collaborate with product owners, analysts and engineers to translate requirements into data products.
  • Optimise pipeline performance and cost across AWS services.
  • Review and mentor engineers on best practices for data engineering and cloud operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support production data workflows.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on experience building data pipelines using AWS technologies (e. g., Glue, Lambda, EMR, Redshift, S3, Athena).
  • Proven track record designing data models for analytics and ML applications.
  • Strong knowledge of data quality, observability and governance patterns.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python and infrastructure-as-code tools (Cloud Formation, Terraform or similar).
  • Experience with streaming and batch processing frameworks (e. g., Kafka, Kinesis, Spark).
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and influence stakeholders across functions.
  • Excellent communication skills with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset.
