We’re seeking an Engineering Manager – Electric Drive Units to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting to our Head of Electric Powertrain , you will be focused on the creation, management and development of a high performing engineering team, delivering vehicle programmes within a matrix organisation. The engineering team will include Project Engineers, Technical Specialists and Design Engineer that together will deliver Electric Drive Units into high volume automotive production programmes, alongside R&D and development projects.
This pivotal role will operate in a hybrid capacity from our offices near Leamington Spa. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most visionary minds in the automotive field.

What you’ll do
- Ownership of the technical capability of the Electric Drive Units function. Empowered to develop this capability and recruit inline with headcount plans and financial budgets.
- Management of external Engineering Service Providers and contract staff including alignment of resource requirements and signoff of time bookings and work packages.
- Responsible for ensuring tools and processes are suitable and best fit for the engineering function, whilst ensuring consistency across the full engineering department.
- Technical specialist in Electric Drive Units, including inverter, motor and gearbox expertise. Able to support team members, manage escalations and make technical decisions in order to support the group and report to seniors.
- Working alongside delivery managers to allocate engineers to different programmes (vehicle and R&D) in order to deliver on the company goals.
- Champion the DFMEA process to ensure that the proposed approach provides suitable coverage for the technologies and risks associated with the programme. Advocate the fault management system to ensure that an appropriate approach is taken to resolving any outstanding faults.
Who you are
- Significant experience of Electric Powertrains (Battery to Driveshaft) within an automotive engineering environment, degree qualified in a related engineering discipline.
- Proven track record of building, maintaining and motivating high performing engineering teams.
- Finance experience with respect to managing CAPEX, recruitment and operational costs within an engineering organisation.
- Demonstrable understanding of electric powertrain architectures and underlying principles and technologies including thermal management, HV harnessing, electrical safety systems, serviceability and control strategies.
- Experience of system/component delivery within an APQP, six sigma or similar framework (FMEA, DVP, quality planning, PPAP etc) and full product lifecycle activities.
- A comprehensive understanding of the V-Cycle and its application in an automotive environment.
