The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading the Business Development team in driving business growth, identifying new markets and partnerships with a core focus on Situational Awareness software solutions into defence markets.
Principal Accountabilities- Leadership: Manage team of Business Development Executives. Provide strategic direction, operational support and personal development facilitation for team members. Set clear priorities and ensure effective workload planning and execution. Collaborate across the business, principally with Commercial and Engineering teams within Teleplan Forsberg and the wider Teleplan Group. Deputise for the Director of Strategic Defence Partnerships when required. Foster an entrepreneurial growth culture by encouraging cross-functional collaboration, generating new business ideas, and enabling teams to contribute to commercial opportunities.
- Strategic Direction: Contribute to the strategic direction of the business through input into Director-level decision making. Identify long-term objectives for business growth and innovation. Propose and develop strategic partnerships with third parties. Inform wider Group international strategy.
- Business Development: Manage and develop key client relationships to drive revenue growth, repeat business, and long-term partnerships. Build relationships with partners including suppliers, advisors and agents. Expand the profile and reach of the company and its technologies to government and corporate users. Track emerging markets and trends in Defence Situational Awareness market and associated applications. Lead bid process on relevant sales opportunities. Maintain client management from initial opportunity to contract fulfilment.
- Operational Responsibilities: Execution of team activity in UK and overseas including exhibitions, exercises, demonstrations and training events. Ensure BD activities (events, exhibitions, demonstrations) deliver measurable commercial value aligned to strategy. Ensure accurate recording of data on sales opportunities and activities. Submission and evaluation of internal business cases. Represent Business Development on company Management Team.
The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to define and deliver strategic objectives through requirement focused sales growth, leadership skills to develop team members and broader business capabilities, and client management and relationship building skills. Must be prepared for regular travel across UK and overseas, without restrictions, when required to meet business objectives. Must be able to attain or hold NATO SC clearance. Desirable attributes would be UK Military experience, Commercial experience, Knowledge of UK Defence markets.
