Forrest Recruitment are delighted to be working on behalf of this established and successful freight and logistics business, who specialise in providing time-critical transport solutions across the UK, Europe and worldwide. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Sales/Customer Service professional to join their busy operations team based in Chorley.
Working within a small, supportive and fast-paced team, the successful candidate will be responsible for handling urgent customer transport requirements, securing competitive solutions and developing strong relationships with both new and existing customers.
Daily duties will include:
- Handling urgent customer enquiries via telephone and email, understanding their requirements and providing suitable transport solutions
- Obtaining real-time availability and pricing from UK and European transport providers
- Negotiating with hauliers and customers to secure commercially competitive rates
- Converting enquiries into confirmed bookings through a confident and proactive sales approach
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with both new and existing customers to encourage repeat business
- Reviewing shipment details carefully to establish the correct vehicle requirements, collection and delivery locations and expected transit times
- Sourcing suitable vehicles and transport solutions from an established network of European and UK suppliers
- Monitoring supplier performance and maintaining accurate records to support the wider operations team
- Working closely with transport providers to negotiate favourable rates while maintaining positive long-term relationships
- Identifying any customs requirements and liaising with relevant agents to ensure the necessary declarations are completed
- Tracking consignments throughout their journey and proactively addressing any issues which could affect collection or delivery
- Checking transport documentation and ensuring all relevant procedures and regulations are followed
- Updating internal transport systems accurately and efficiently with customer, vehicle and shipment information
- Providing a high level of customer service throughout the entire process and keeping customers informed of progress
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure urgent requests are dealt with quickly, accurately and efficiently
Working hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm / 9:00am - 5:30pm 1x 30-minute lunch break, 2x 10 minute breaks am/pm

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have previous experience within a fast-paced freight, transport or logistics. You will have a confident telephone manner and be comfortable communicating with customers and suppliers at all levels. The ability to negotiate effectively and build long-standing professional relationships is essential.
