We're working with a globally recognised digital technology business to find a Quality Engineer for a greenfield automation project on their mobile-first platform. This is a hands-on, autonomous contract role with a blank canvas - no inherited framework, no prescribed tooling, just the scope to build it properly from the ground up. The platform is mobile-first (roughly 75% app, 25% web), and the focus of the first six months will be establishing end-to-end test automation, surfacing quality gaps, and improving the overall debuggability and health of the product.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build a mobile-first test automation framework using Appium for native iOS and Android coverage
- Define the end-to-end test strategy across mobile, web, and CI/CD - and integrate it into the delivery pipeline
- Surface and communicate quality gaps across the platform, improving visibility for engineering and product
- Establish standards for test data management, environment strategy, and API mocking
- Coach and upskill engineers on quality practices
Key Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience for native mobile app testing with Appium
- Production-level Cypress experience, with a view on Playwright migration
- A track record of building automation frameworks from scratch with little or no existing infrastructure
- Experience integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar)
- Proficiency in TypeScript and/or JavaScript
Desirable:
- Experience with cross-device cloud testing platforms such as BrowserStack or LambdaTest
- Exposure to visual regression and accessibility testing (axe, WCAG)
- Front-end performance testing - Lighthouse, Core Web Vitals
- Background in high-traffic e-commerce or conversion-critical applications
- Experience working with multi-market or localised products
This is a strong contract opportunity for a Quality Engineer who wants genuine autonomy, a meaningful technical challenge, and the chance to leave a lasting foundation on a platform used at scale.
