We're looking for an Engineering Manager to join a well-established, scaled consumer business with a large and growing engineering function. This is a company that takes engineering seriously, teams own what they build end to end, which means you'll drive technical excellence and team performance. They're looking for an individual that has a forward-thinking mentality, stepping into a high-impact role that sits at the intersection of people, product, and technical delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a squad of engineers and specialists, managing performance, providing coaching, and supporting career development.
  • Take ownership of technical decisions within the squad, ensuring alignment with wider engineering and company strategy.
  • Work with the Product Manager to set OKRs, co-lead quarterly and annual planning, and drive prioritisation to achieve goals.
  • Identify risks and blockers early, communicating progress against OKRs and KPIs to relevant stakeholders.
  • Drive operational excellence, including on-call coverage, SLO attainment, and regular metrics reviews.
  • Foster a healthy, positive team culture and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners (UX, Data, Product).
  • Ensure the squad is appropriately staffed with the right technical skills, contributing to hiring as needed.

Skills & Expertise

  • Proven experience managing a team of software engineers, with a hands-on understanding of the craft.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership or a closely related technical role.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern, cloud-native tech stack: Go, gRPC, GraphQL, Postgres, Kafka, Docker & Kubernetes.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD), Terraform, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong ability to set team goals, drive prioritisation, and measure and improve team performance.
  • Excellent communication skills - comfortable translating technical context to business stakeholders and vice versa.
