We're working with an established organisation building out its data capability to find a Director of Data & AI who will own the strategy, architecture and governance of the data estate. This is a Director of Data & AI role for a senior leader who can set the direction and the guardrails, then trust strong leads to deliver within them. You'll be the senior voice of data and AI to the executive, turning business ambition into a clear roadmap and translating technical reality back into decisions the business can act on.

You'll balance keeping the existing estate running with building something modern and well governed. You set direction; your leads own execution.

Responsibilities as a Director of Data & AI:

  • Define and own the multi-year data and AI strategy, roadmap and business case
  • Set the direction for the data platform and hold it to strong engineering and cost-control standards
  • Own data governance end to end: quality, access, privacy and the regulatory posture
  • Establish a trusted single source of truth and drive consistency across the business
  • Enable data science and ML teams with governed data and a clear path to production
  • Lead and grow the data capability, managing a team of senior technical leads

Requirements:

  • Substantial experience in data and AI roles, including several years in senior leadership
  • Proven track record building and governing an enterprise-scale data platform
  • Deep expertise in modern cloud data platform and architecture patterns
  • Strong experience with data governance tooling and practice
  • Solid grasp of the ML and AI lifecycle and of data modelling
  • A credible player-coach Director of Data & AI who earns the respect of technical teams and communicates clearly with executives
  • A director-level mandate to shape the data and AI strategy from the front
  • Genuine scope to build something modern rather than inherit someone else's
  • A seat at the executive table as the senior voice of data and AI
  • A strong leadership team around you, with capable leads owning delivery
  • Competitive package and benefits (to confirm with the client)

If you're a Director of Data & AI who wants real ownership of both the strategy and the platform, this is worth a conversation. Bring the technical credibility and the commercial instinct, and you'll set the direction for how an entire organisation uses its data.
