The Formula 1 Electronics department produces a wide range of customised and bespoke solutions to support the timing, televising, and organisation of Formula 1 events. We architect and design embedded systems for F1 cars to provide team telemetry and driver/engineer audio, and to deliver on-board video and audio for F1 broadcasters and digital platforms. This is in addition to a variety of other electronics solutions designed by our small in-house team to support any aspect of an F1 event.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, focus-driven engineer with a passion for all aspects of embedded electronics to complement our small and efficient team of systems, hardware, and embedded software engineers. You will need to have a solid background in electronics engineering with experience in embedded system development. You will need to be able to architect systems, lead technical teams, understand project management principles, interface with internal and external stakeholders, and be able to support and, where necessary, debug systems out in the field.

You should have a product focus, with a desire to see solutions through the complete design cycle from requirements capture through to deployment. You should be able to work with hardware and software specialists to deliver solutions. There will be a need to hold discussions with potential external suppliers, and you will organise and conduct tests and demonstrations of potential solutions to enhance the Formula 1 output. You should be prepared to research and quickly learn new technologies, processes, strategies, and tools to meet project requirements. You may need to attend F1 races to support products during the deployment, handover phases, and initial support of the projects you work on.

Both Systems Engineers and Senior Systems Engineers will be considered to find the right fit for the role.

Prior to the role it would be essential that you have:

  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, system architecture, and system verification and validation, with experience in embedded systems development and support, especially full lifecycle.
  • Architecting or assisting in the design of electronic products.

Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:

  • Working with networking and serial protocols (e.g., Ethernet, CAN, RS232); video encoding (e.g., H264) and transmission protocols (e.g., MPEG-TS); and RF systems.
  • Experience with electronic hardware and software and design principles.
