We are looking for a highly capable and motivated Senior Timekeeper Sporting Analyst to support the delivery of accurate, dependable, and real‑time sporting data across Formula 1 events.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Timekeeping & Sporting Operations: Operate and support all timekeeping functions during Formula 1 events, including timing control, results distribution, and results positions. Monitor real‑time data from multiple sources, accurately identifying errors, exceptions or inconsistencies and prioritising corrective actions. Maintain and operate timing room systems, high‑speed video cameras and start systems to ensure flawless sporting delivery. Apply sporting regulations accurately within timekeeping and start system operations.
- Systems, Rigging & Commissioning: Perform timing system rigging, derigging, and commissioning to a consistently high standard. Supervise or support operational setup and post‑event activities both at the track and in the Media & Technology Centre. Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Technical Analysis & Issue Resolution: Independently identify, analyse, and resolve technical and operational issues during live events. Proactively prevent potential failures through structured checklists, procedures, and system reviews. Investigate and document all event‑based incidents, contributing to event issue management reporting.
- Software, Data & Testing: Conduct effective software application testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring systems meet user and specification requirements. Clearly articulate technical issues and provide actionable recommendations for improvement. Analyse and interrogate large datasets to support operational decisions and post‑event reviews.
- Collaboration & Team Leadership: Collaborate closely with engineers, sporting teams, developers, and stakeholders to resolve issues and enhance system performance. Support team leadership activities and act as a lead in the absence of the Team Manager. Contribute to cross‑functional projects and small‑ to medium‑scale technical initiatives.
Experience
- Motorsport timekeeping experience with data analysis in a sporting competition environment.
- Live sports event experience in officiating, event management, or technical timekeeping roles.
- A National Timekeeping Officiating Licence issued by an ASN.
- Experience working in high‑pressure, time‑critical operational settings.
- International Timekeeping Officiating Licence (desirable).
- FIA recognised timekeeping licence (desirable).
- Experience across multiple motorsport series (desirable).
- Exposure to system development, technical projects, or workflow improvement initiatives (desirable).
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or degree in a technical or related discipline (desirable).
- Full UK driving licence is required for this role.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong ability to synthesise, interpret and visualise real‑time information from multiple data sources.
- Excellent problem identification, analysis, and resolution skills in live operational environments.
- High levels of computer literacy and confidence working with bespoke software tools.
- Solid understanding of timing system architecture, applications and working knowledge of system connectivity (e.g. TCP, SQL).
- Strong organisational, administrative and communication skills.
- Initiative‑taking can‑do approach to resolving issues and improving processes.
- Experience performing structured software testing and UAT (desirable).
- Knowledge of Python and SQL (desirable).
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification (desirable).
