We are looking for a Circuit Engineer to join our Race Engineering and Infrastructure team. Reporting into our Circuit & Engineering Manager, this role will assist in the design, planning, and management of Formula One events. We anticipate this role to undertake international travel of around eight races per F1 season; however, when not travelling, you will be based at our Media & Technology Centre in Biggin Hill.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the Lead Circuit Engineer for up to eight (8) races per Formula 1 season, taking ownership of managing the broadcast, technical and infrastructure requirements, risks, and opportunities from the inception phase to completion.
- Travel to up to eight (8) races per Formula 1 season, up to 14 days per race event.
- Travel up to eight (8) recces per Formula 1 season, up to 4 days per recce.
- Conduct high-level briefing sessions for all technical and operational Formula One Management departments, detailing event specific requirements.
- Produce detailed Recce and Post-Race reports, used as the primary tool for Circuit Promoters to prepare Infrastructure requirements for Formula 1 Grand Prix events.
- Autonomously chair meetings with Circuit Promoters, detailing Formula One Management’s infrastructure requirements, and necessary improvements.
- Assist in the maintenance and implementation of Formula One Management’s General Specification Manual across each Formula 1 Season – the single source of Engineering and Infrastructure requirements for Circuit Promoters.
- Foster and maintain successful working relationships across Formula One Management’s global network of Circuit Representatives and Event Promoters.
- Act as the single point of contact between Formula One Management, and Circuit, technical and operational departments while on-site at each event.
- Liaise with Formula One Management departments regarding Formula 1 broadcast infrastructure locations to prepare technical drawings and plans using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Create and maintain technical equipment standards for use across Formula One Management technical and operational departments.
- Prepare detailed feasibility studies (and drawings) to facilitate significant/new infrastructure upgrades to existing Formula 1 Circuits.
- Assist in the development of quality assurance systems for the continual improvement of Formula One Management workflow.
- Support Formula One Management with the creation of AutoCAD drawings for F1 Team, and department specific uses (e.g. F1 and Support Paddock/Garage layouts, Race Ceremonies, Sustainable Event Energy project and race specific activations).
- Liaise directly with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) to ensure that their on-track and off-track requirements are fulfilled for each Formula 1 Grand Prix event/season.
- Produce comprehensive project overview documents for presentation to all levels of seniority across Formula One Management stakeholders.
You may also be asked to:
- Support Race Engineering and Infrastructure Surveying/Data Collection department with on-site GPS survey, and data extraction when required.
- Develop AutoCAD drawing dynamic blocks.
- Assist in the printing and collation of Race Drawings for circulation to Formula One Management operational departments.
- Review and assist in the definition of Circuit Engineering’s travelling race kit requirements.
What Are We Looking For?
Experience:
- Demonstrate actively supporting the design and delivery of infrastructure projects.
- Having been involved in multi-disciplinary project teams across varying levels of seniority.
- Display autonomous creation of high-standard AutoCAD based drawings.
- Demonstrate exemplary stakeholder management.
- Understand key principles of safety in design.
Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:
- Ability to use Total Station/GPS survey equipment and associated software.
- Working on event overlay, or temporary structure, projects.
- Previous travel-based work role.
Knowledge & Skills:
- High-proficiency with creating AutoCAD based drawings.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in reporting and presenting to various stakeholders.
- A meticulous approach to managing risk and change.
- High confidence with worldwide autonomous travel.
- An ability to consecutively manage several dynamic projects.
- Empathetic management, and engagement, with stakeholders and colleagues across all cultures.
- An eagerness to learn/integrate with new software.
Qualifications:
Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in one of the following fields: Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management.
- A UK driving licence.
