Main duties and responsibilities:
- Inspect, support, modify, assemble, maintain, and repair all mechanical aspects of FOM equipment (in the UK and abroad), including rapid fault finding, evaluation and diagnosing of problems in an accurate and timely manner (mechanical fitter).
- Understand and produce high quality products from mechanical drawings provided.
- Travel to events abroad as Maintenance Technician when required; assist/co‑ordinate rigging and de‑rigging mechanical equipment and structures as required. This will consist of heavy race support travel and is a core travelling role.
- Maintain and keep in good order department tools including power tools; also maintain Mechanical Engineering stores and prepare components to be sent to an event.
- Support and feedback into the drawing office when required and assist in development of prototypes.
- Basic air‑con, fault detection and repair, create and maintain service schedules, determine spares requirements and co‑ordinate repair and service work.
Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate:
- Ability to read and understand mechanical layout and engineering drawings.
- Ability to diagnose and rectify mechanical faults and willingness to undertake repair work.
- Ability to weld using MIG, TIG, arc and Gas welding and cutting equipment.
- Basic Air‑conditioning fault diagnosing and servicing ability.
- Aware of machine shop and fabrication techniques.
- Familiar with a comprehensive range of materials, manufacturing processes, adhesives, and mechanical fixings.
- Must have the ability to compile technical reports with associated drawings as required, pertaining to mechanical systems or operations.
- Carrying out unplanned maintenance as required.
- Thorough and reliable worker showing attention to detail and a focus on achieving objectives in the most safe and efficient manner.
- Able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Able to feedback to the drawing office with design modification and change requests.
- Demonstrate good teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a close, multi‑discipline environment.
- Maintain positive and tactful relationships with others.
- Share knowledge freely with others to ensure best practices.
- Proactive approach to H&S initiatives.
- Assisting with the co‑ordination of spare part requirements and optimising of spares stock levels.
Qualifications:
- You will need to have current UK driving licence in this role.
- Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications: Apprenticeship or recognised qualification (NVQ 3, BTEC level 3 or degree in a mechanical engineering environment). Qualified to operate Forklift and Merlot, Cherry Picker and Scissor Lift.
