We are looking for an Electronics Technician to join the Onboard Camera team at Formula 1. Reporting into our Senior Onboard Camera Manager, this role will responsibly maintain all aspects of the Onboard Camera operations. This includes servicing, maintaining, developing and installing the Onboard Camera system, ensuring that it meets the high standards expected from the company.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To maintain and help develop the OBC system, ensuring it remains in the highest working order and all aspects of the system meet the standards required to run safely and reliably on a Formula One car.
  • To service all relevant electronic and mechanical components between races, either at Biggin Hill or at the circuit, ensuring that each part of the system is in optimum condition before being used again at the next race.
  • Once fully trained, to install the OBC system on to each Formula One and Support Series cars, ensuring it conforms to the highest levels of safety.
  • To perform a role, as required, in the Broadcast Centre at races assisting with the fault finding and repair of the Onboard Camera system as well as helping to provide high quality footage for the FOM TV output.
  • To ensure stock levels are maintained as per BOC requirements.
  • To be involved in pre-season testing of OBC ‘on car’ installations as and when required which may involve visiting Teams or attending pre-season tests.
  • To help build, design and dismantle the OBC workshop at every F1 event whenever necessary.
  • To operate safely at all times in line with Company health and safety requirements.
  • To undertake other duties within your capabilities, as your manager may assign to you from time to time (which may also include working in the Broadcast Centre or in the Pit Lane).

What Are We Looking For?

Experience

  • Electronics and mechanical experience essential, with a proven track record in a related industry.
  • Any relevant broadcast, electronic or mechanical experience that could be related to the position.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Fine attention to detail in assembly and application.
  • Soldering and component assembly.
  • Ability to fault-find and diagnose mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team.
  • Computer literate. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational qualifications.
  • Mechanical, Broadcast or Electronic qualifications would be desirable.
  • A fork lift license would be desirable.

Personal Qualities

  • Friendly, proactive, helpful and personable.
  • Interests in sports (although not necessarily F1), travel, model building, photography or mechanics.
