Position Summary

24 hours per week (Working across 7 days), Permanent, Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per annum (pro rata), Closing Date: 15th February 2026, Interview Date: TBC.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the MRI department team delivering a high‑quality service to patients, ensuring a high level of safety and adherence to policies and protocols.
  • Carry out clinical and administrative duties in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform MRI examinations to the highest standard in accordance with protocols and guidelines, using professional judgment and skills; independently accountable, including in emergency and lone working situations.
  • Maintain current expertise on all equipment, prioritise workload according to clinical need.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards of appearance, attitude, and the statement of conduct approved by the College of Radiographers and the Health Professions Council; maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Check patient details prior to examination and ensure records are correct; justify referrals within departmental protocols and statutory regulations, and refuse inappropriate requests.
  • Be aware of pregnancy status before certain procedures.
  • Supervise, clinically teach, and advise other radiology staff, student radiographers, and department assistants.
  • Organise workload and staffing within MRI, accounting for emergency cases to ensure efficient service.
  • Hold a certificate of competence to perform intravenous injections and administer contrast media within agreed protocols.
  • Notify clinicians of identified abnormalities for urgent reporting; critically evaluate all images, including repeating sequences or taking further views as necessary.
  • Transfer images electronically to other hospital sites as required.
  • Support the extended working day and shift system, participating in the on‑call, weekend, and public holiday rota.
  • Be reflective, independent and autonomous in thinking and outlook.
  • Participate in the delivery of regular Quality Assurance tests and act on results to improve quality of service.
  • Communicate imaging procedures empathically to gain verbal consent from a diverse patient population.
  • Provide advice on booking appointment and preparation as required, relating after‑care and condition‑related information in a sympathetic and diplomatic manner.
  • Operate scanner without radiological supervision while acknowledging where physician input is necessary.
  • Participate in the major incident procedure when required.
  • Ensure patient care and welfare are upheld to the highest standard.
  • Maintain safety guidelines related to MR scanner access and emergency procedures.
  • Update protocols and procedures with radiologists to maintain high standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals to ensure smooth running of service.
  • Use radiology computer systems for input and retrieval of patient details for audit and statistics.
  • Read and adhere to the policies and procedures of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and MRI operational policies.
  • Perform clerical and assistant duties as required to support department operation.
  • Record equipment faults, arrange for service engineers to attend and repair promptly, liaise with other hospitals if needed.
  • Participate in the hospital’s personal development scheme.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment; liaise with estates or housekeeping as necessary.
  • Handle first‑line complaints and complete paperwork per trust policy.
  • Report sickness or absence of any department member to the Superintendent Radiographer.
  • Undertake any other tasks requested by the Superintendent Radiographer that reasonably fall within the scope of the post.
