We are seeking a motivated and experienced Locum Acute Medicine Consultant to join our dynamic team at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. This role offers the opportunity to provide senior clinical leadership on the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit and join a multidisciplinary team on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU). You will help deliver timely, high-quality care to patients with acute medical illness, while helping shape and develop pathways to improve patient flow and outcomes.

Main duties of the job:

  • Lead and provide day-to-day clinical care on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
  • Develop and improve patient pathways, with a focus on ambulatory care pathways.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance across Acute Medicine.
  • Supervise, teach, and support junior doctors, trainees, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Work collaboratively with the Emergency Department and other medical specialties to ensure seamless, high-quality patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with Trust policies, legal, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) Certification
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 12 months of interview
  • Demonstrated experience in Acute Medicine, including assessment, investigation, and management of patients with acute medical illness
  • Understanding of Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Ambulatory Care Pathways

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead, communicate, liaise, and negotiate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and mentor trainee and other doctors
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Experience in service development and governance processes
