Job Summary
Provide senior medical and surgical care for the Department of Ophthalmology with a focus on medical retina. Deliver clinical services across a range of service lines including cataract, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, paediatric ophthalmology and medical retina.
Responsibilities
- Take clinical responsibility for all medical retina patients and support ophthalmic consultant clinical responsibilities.
- Provide cover for colleagues during leave and other authorised absences.
- Engage in medical audit, education, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
- Contribute to general management of the hospital and establish links with the community.
- Maintain and develop expertise in cross‐sectional imaging, cataract surgery and retinal screening, including ROP screening where required.
Essential Qualifications
- Full GMC registration.
- Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
- FRCOphth or equivalent.
- Entry on Specialist Register (or expected within 6 months).
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in service development.
- Clinical training equivalent to the UK CCST in medical retina.
- Original ROP screening experience.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
- Expertise in cataract surgery and independent responsibility for patient care.
- Expertise in medical retina ophthalmology and cross‐sectional imaging.
- Knowledge of medical audit, education, and clinical governance.
Desirable Experience & Knowledge
- Experience of service development.
- Clinical training equivalent to UK CCST requirements.
- ROP screening.
