Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Director or designee, the DES Program Manager is responsible for planning and managing a large support unit that provides clinical staff and medical professionals support for disability determination activities across multiple client agencies and states. The role includes ensuring compliance with DES guidelines, state and federal regulations, and privacy laws.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage daily administrative operations to support clinicians in conducting medical and psychological determinations efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Develop and oversee guidelines for staff support of medical and psychological review processes.
- Manage DES programs related to unit functions and provide input for new or renewed programs.
- Support existing and new lines of business through effective unit process management.
- Lead customer service operations, monitor call volumes, improve client communication, and oversee staff performance.
- Analyze and improve administrative systems for increased efficiency.
- Collaborate on resource planning for new business initiatives and establish procedures for new programs.
- Develop guidelines for non-clinical determinations.
- Promote continuous quality improvement and staff participation in related workgroups.
- Ensure privacy of protected health information through staff education and compliance with HIPAA and other laws.
- Oversee human resource functions including staffing, recruitment, performance management, and compliance activities.
- Serve as liaison with external organizations and other departments as needed.
- Adhere to university, state, and funding regulations.
- Perform quality assurance reviews and communicate policy, workflow, and organizational changes.
Qualifications
- RN with current license and at least six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent clinical licensure with similar experience.
- Alternatively, a Master\’s degree with licensure or certification as a vocational rehabilitation counselor or allied health professional, with three years of relevant experience including two in medical training.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Supervisory experience in staff oversight, process, and office management.
- Experience with process and quality improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with computer tools including email, word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics.
- Knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including privacy and data security laws.
