Job Summary

The responsibilities of this role are to machine test pieces to very tight tolerances in line with customer and specification requirements / drawings. The test pieces are produced to various different types of test using multiple machining processes. These test pieces are then destructively tested or examined Metallurgically to ascertain if the batch is acceptable to release to the customer.

These test pieces are then destructively tested or examined Metallurgically to ascertain if the batch is acceptable to release to the customer.

Key Objectives of the Role

  • H&S – Work in a safe and responsible manner. (For own and other people’s safety).
  • Conduct any pre-shift H&S checks as specified; for example: Coolant levels, emergency stops.
  • Housekeeping (5s duties).
  • Follow engineering drawings to produce samples to very high tolerances and having the ability to use measuring equipment to confirm sample dimensions are within tolerances.
  • Operate CNC lathe to produce finished mechanical test pieces.
  • Operate manual centre lathes to perform rough turning of rounds.
  • Operate the Pryor marking system to accurately identify samples.
  • Operate the correct use of the pedestal grinder.
  • Operate millers to perform rough machining on Charpy, Grainflow and macro samples.
  • Operate the surface grinder for finishing of micro and Grainflow samples.
  • Operate the horizontal linisher to perform finish machining of Macro’s & Grainflows.

There is an expectation that the role will be flexible and willingness to train in other areas of the department is essential, this may include the operation of band saws, waterjet cutting, Mechanical testing and Metallurgical preparation / testing.

The Applicant

Essential

  • Experienced of working in a machining role ideally with at least 5 years’ experience.
  • Manual Milling/Turning Experience.

Desirable

  • Experience with CNC machining.
  • Overhead Crane Training (Max. 5 Years).
  • Abrasive Wheel Training (Max. 5 Years).
  • First Aid Training (Max 3 Years).
  • Fire Warden Training (Max. 5 Years).
  • FLT Training (Max. 5 Years).
  • IOSH Working Safely / IOSH Managing Safely an advantage.
