We are looking for a Financial Controller based in Birmingham to lead and manage the finance function to support both regional and group objectives. Provide accurate financial reporting, robust forecasting, and strategic financial guidance to senior management. Ensure the business operates with strong systems, controls, and processes, while driving performance, profitability, and compliance with statutory obligations.
Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Work alongside the Managing Director and Group Finance Director, contributing to Company strategy and financial guidance.
- Provide financial stewardship to support sound business decisions.
- Contribute to improved performance and profitability.
- Full ownership of all financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, variance analysis, board packs, and statutory accounts.
- Prepare and review monthly profit and cashflow forecasts, projecting forward up to 5 years with KPIs and analysis.
- Ownership of the annual budget process.
- Deliver robust project appraisals and financial modelling.
Controls & Compliance
- Maintain a strong control environment and risk management approach.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including audit, corporation tax, VAT, CIS, and company secretarial duties.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance financial processes and controls across the business.
Cashflow & Treasury Management
- Ownership of cash flow forecasting and management.
- Oversight of weekly and monthly payment runs, ensuring vendors and subcontractors are paid on time.
- Oversight of payroll and related processes.
- Lead, manage, and develop the finance team; recruit quality staff as the business grows.
- Lead the implementation and management of financial and IT systems across the business.
- Ensure consistency and collaboration across regional finance teams.
Ad-hoc & Project Work
- Produce financial analysis, business cases, and scenario modelling to support strategic initiatives.
- Deliver ad-hoc reporting and project work as required by senior management or group.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with 5+ years PQE.
- Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience in the construction industry desirable.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to add value.
