Role Purpose

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of all mechanical, electrical, and utility systems within mill.

This role leads maintenance activities, oversees engineering staff, reduces downtime, and supports continuous improvement of plant performance while ensuring compliance with feed safety, quality, and statutory requirements.

  • Operational Leadership
  • Ensure that all engineering work is carried out in line with Health and Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Supervise and coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for all mill equipment. Including Boiler, Compressors and all statutory equipment using CMMS system.
  • Ensure equipment availability meets production targets and minimizes unplanned downtime.
  • Maintain and update maintenance schedules, SOPs, and equipment history using CMMS.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Supervise day engineers to ensure work is completed as set out and time management on works planned.
  • Assist production teams in planned maintenance and align day technicians with shift technicians to ensure works are completed as planned.
  • Investigate and give feedback on faults reported on plant equipment – CMMS.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety protocols are adhered to on site by all mill staff and report back on findings.
  • Participate in Company training as required.
  • Ensure that all stores and inventory is up to date.
  • Planning of contractors on site and ensuring all contractors have permits to work and RAMS approved prior to work commencing on site.
  • Be available for call outs to assist in breakdown situations.
  • Health, Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Lead Health & Safety standards on shift, ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times.
  • Ensure BOs, near misses and safety concerns are reported, escalated and acted upon.
  • Maintain hygiene standards across all working areas throughout the shift.
  • Ensure compliance with UFAS requirements and site quality standards.
  • Ensure Environmental Management Systems are followed in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
  • Tier Accountability & Reporting
  • Lead participation in the Tier accountability for the engineering department.
  • Update daily visual management boards accurately and on time.
  • Communicate operational performance, and potential blockers at morning tier meetings.
  • Provide day‑to‑day direction to day technicians and co ordinate with production teams.
  • Allocate tasks and priorities to ensure effective running of the mill.
  • Act as first point of contact for operational issues during the shift.
  • Support training and mentoring of operatives in process and safety requirements.
  • Maintenance & Housekeeping
  • Ensure routine maintenance and planned cleaning schedules are completed.
  • Escalate equipment defects or repeat failures promptly.
  • Lead and sustain 5S standards across the mill.

Skills & Experience

  • Feed mill experience (essential)
  • Strong process and operational knowledge
  • Maintain CMMS system on site daily.
  • Ensuring shift hand overs are adhered to.
  • Experience with process control systems PLC.
  • Electrical fault finding (Industrial experience).
  • Boiler and steam experience.
  • Planning in of all statutory inspections on site and all compliance related engineering requirements.
  • Competent in use of standard Office software.
  • A recognized Engineering trade qualification in electrical / mechanical discipline.
  • Professional approach and available for breakdown cover to ensure mill is operational.
